SBCC will host Golden West in the Southern California Regional men’s soccer finals on Saturday at 7 p.m. in La Playa Stadium.

The Vaqueros, seeded No. 3 with a 17-1-4 record, have won eight straight including playoff victories over L.A. Harbor (2-1) and Rio Hondo (3-0). SBCC won its third WSC title in the last four years with a 10-1-1 mark.

Golden West, the runner-up in the Orange Empire Conference, is seeded No. 7 with a 13-5-4 record. The Rustlers beat San Bernardino Valley and No. 2 Cerritos, both by 1-0 scores.

There are two Southern Cal Finals on Saturday. The other one features No. 4 seed Oxnard, the WSC runner-up, at top-seeded and unbeaten Mt. San Antonio (19-0-3).

SBCC’s STANLEY SERVES UP VAQUERO VICTORY

Tuesday, November 22, 2011 By Dave Loveton – SBCC SPORTS

Duran Stanley did it all on Tuesday night at La Playa Stadium, scoring a pair of goals and drawing a penalty kick in SBCC’s 3-0 shutout of Rio Hondo in the second round of the Southern Cal Regional men’s soccer playoffs.

Stanley, a freshman from Honduras who played for Santa Barbara High a few years ago, opened the scoring in the 19th minute. He intercepted a pass and took off on a breakaway up the right side, dribbled around the goalie and blasted in a 15-yard shot.

“I read the defense really well and I knew he was going to pass the ball back,” said Stanley, who leads the team with 12 goals. “I knew with my quickness I’d be able to get to the ball.”

The third-seeded Vaqueros extended their win streak to eight and improved to 17-1-4. They’re 14-0-1 in their last 15. SBCC is also tough at home with a 9-1-2 record this year and 23-2-3 in its last 28.

The Vaqueros will host No. 7 Golden West on Saturday at 7 p.m. with a trip to the State Final Four on the line. The Rustlers (13-5-4) upset No. 2 Cerritos 1-0 on Tuesday.

In the 52nd minute, Stanley ran onto a through ball from Andres Gomez and was tackled by the keeper. Jordan Tabor drilled the penalty kick into the lower right for a 2-0 lead.

“I knew the goalie was going to do that,” said Stanley. “I have 10 PKs on the season. I’m creative about that. I know he’s going to come out, so I try to slip the ball a little farther away. Our whole team stepped it up tonight.”

In the 90th minute, Tabor delivered a free kick from 52 yards and Stanley jumped right next to the goalie. The keeper dropped the ball right at the feet of Stanley, who popped it in for the final goal.

“Duran is a great asset, he’s a handful for opposing defenses,” said coach John Sisterson. “Our defense played well, all the boys played well.”

The Women’s Team Loses…It’s Down To PK’s. The End of a VERY Competitive Season!

“The women played a great game.   I didn’t feel they deserved the loss, but when you’re down to PK’s, it’s anyone’s game. They’re a competitive team.  They’ve won the WSC title for the first time ever, and I hope they are as proud of themselves, as I am of their accomplishments.”

SBCC loses SoCal Regional on PKs

By Dave Loveton – SBCC SPORTS INFORMATION

Saturday, November 19, 2011

After 120 scoreless minutes, San Bernardino Valley won a dramatic penalty-kick shootout to stun No. 2 seed SBCC on Saturday in the opening round of the Southern Cal Regional women’s soccer playoffs at Westmont College.

With the sun rapidly sinking into the mountains, the defending state champion Wolverines (14-5-3) won the PK battle 5-4, thanks to a save by Jennifer Keats on a second-round attempt by Katie Voss.

“I’ve been making that PK for months, that was the first time I missed it,” said Voss, one of 13 sophomores who played their final game for the Vaqueros. “I thought we had more talent that them.

“We had a lot of opportunities, we were just unlucky. There were two times when the defender stuck her foot on the line and it bounced back out.”

Three minutes into overtime, Voss headed a pass off the right post.

Jessica Domenichelli, the MVP of the WSC North, scored the first penalty kick for the Vaqueros (16-3-0), who posted the second-highest win total in team history. Jo Lawlor, Jenna Rubin and Debbie Arreola also found the net.

With the PKs tied 4-4, Ivana Ramirez scored in the lower left to give San

Bernardino the victory.

Domenichelli had a few chances to score on headers but her seven-game goal-streak was halted. She set records this year for single-season goals (27) and goals in a career (52).

“It was a great game, I thought we outplayed them for 90 minutes,” said SBCC coach John Sisterson. “We got the ball down on the floor. Their keeper pulled off two great saves to keep them in the game.

“It’s very, very disappointing to go 90 minutes, then another 30 minutes, then lose on PKs. But that’s the nature of the game.”

The Wolverines outshot the Vaqueros 22-18 and had 10 shots on goal,

compared to seven for the home team. Goalie Cheyenne Rodriguez made 10 saves for Santa Barbara.

 Domenichelli is MVP of WSC
Sisterson named Coach of Year; Nine others make All-WSC

After a record-breaking women’s soccer season, SBCC forward Jessica Domenichelli was selected MVP of the WSC North on Monday in a vote of conference coaches.

The sophomore from El Dorado Hills broke her own school record with 27 goals, the second-highest total in the state. She had four straight hat tricks at the end of October and led the WSC in scoring with 64 points, 12 more than the runner-up.

John Sisterson was named Coach of the Year, after guiding the Vaquero women to their first conference title. SBCC, ranked No. 3 in the state with a 16-2 record, shared the WSC crown with Ventura at 11-1. Sisterson was also voted WSC men’s Coach of the Year.

Nine other Vaqueros made all-conference.

Katie Voss, the No. 7 scorer in California with 16 goals and a school-record 16 assists, was a first-team choice, along with midfielder Jenna Rubin and defenders Morgan Crumpley and Sara Tomas.

Second-team choices included Ali Raack, Nicole Payne, Jo Lawlor and goalie Cheyenne Rodriguez. The Vaqueros had the No. 4 offense (70 goals) and No. 5 defense (10 goals) in Southern California.

Goalkeeper Hannah Zech was an honorable mention selection.

The Vaqueros will host a first-round South Regional playoff match on Saturday.

Vaqueros claim WSC crown
Tabor’s long goal is difference, 1-0

Jordan Tabor lofted in a 45-yard shot in the 68th minute Thursday night, lifting SBCC to a 1-0 men’s soccer victory that secured the WSC title.

The Vaqueros, ranked No. 4 in Southern Cal and No. 7 in the state, beat Citrus at La Playa Stadium to complete a 12-1-1 conference campaign. It was their third WSC crown in the last four years and ninth overall.

SBCC (15-1-4) won its last six games and is 12-0-1 in its last 13. Citrus fell to 4-11-5.

“Hugo (Pizano, an assistant coach) and some of the guys said the keeper was off the line quite a bit, so I thought I’d have a shot and lucky enough, it went in,” said Tabor, after his ninth goal. “This is great for our sophomores.

“There were times when things haven’t gone too well but we dug in the whole season. We haven’t played our best football. We have a good spirit now and I’m looking forward to the playoffs.”

The Vaqueros will open the Southern Cal playoffs at home on Saturday, Nov. 19.

SBCC outshot the visitors 10-1 in the first half and 21-7 for the game.

Tabor, a freshman midfielder from England, leads the team in scoring with 27 points. He scored the game-winner with his left foot from the left side, just in front of his team’s bench.

“Jordan is fairly accurate,” said coach John Sisterson after the players doused him with a water shower to celebrate. “Those are the kind of goals that win games.“

And conference titles.

“The boys deserved the title,” he added. “I thought we should have won it last year (when Oxnard passed them on the last day). We’ve worked hard this year and only lost one game.”

Sisterson will try to secure another WSC title on Friday when his women’s team travels to winless West L.A. If the Vaqueros win, they’ll complete an 11-1 season and earn a share of their first WSC championship.

It would also mark the first time that one school has captured men’s and women’s WSC soccer crowns in the same year.

Vaqueros clinch tie for WSC crown
They rally to beat L.A. Mission 3-2

Nick Littleton and Jordan Tabor each had a goal and assist on Tuesday afternoon, leading SBCC to a come-from-behind 3-2 men’s soccer victory over L.A. Mission and at least a share of the WSC title. The game was played at L.A. Pierce in Woodland Hills, due to renovations on Mission’s field.

The Vaqueros, ranked No. 8 in the state and nation, won for the fifth straight time and completed an unbeaten regular season on the road (8-0-2). They’re 14-1-4 overall and 11-1-1 in conference for 34 points. Oxnard, which tied Canyons 1-1, is second with 31 points (9-0-4) with one game remaining.

“I’m pleased for the boys,” said coach John Sisterson, whose team is 11-0-1 in its last 12 matches. “It’s just rewards after we lost the title on the last day of last year.”

The Vaqueros have won nine WSC crowns, including three of the last four years.

Mission (6-9-6, 2-6-5) led 1-0 at halftime. Santa Barbara scored three times in an eight-minute span of the second half.

Littleton evened the score in the 65th minute, taking a pass from Tabor and burying it in the lower right side. Five minutes later, Duran Stanley was brought down in the box and Tabor converted a penalty kick.

In the 72nd minute, Santiago Perez booted one inside the back post on a corner kick from Littleton.

The Vaqueros finish the regular season on Thursday with a 7 p.m. home game against Citrus.

Domenichelli breaks her record
She gets 26th goal, moves to top of state scoring

Jessica Domenichelli broke her own school record for goals in a season Friday night, leading SBCC to a 3-0 women’s soccer victory over Moorpark at La Playa Stadium.

Domenichelli had a goal and two assists in the regular-season home finale. SBCC is 7-1 at home this year and 17-2-1 in their last 20 home matches.

She popped in a header in the 61st minute after a long run and looping cross by Katie Voss. It was her record-setting 26th goal of the year. She’s also has the career record with 51.

Domenichelli is the top scorer in California with 26 goals and 62 points. She’s scored in six straight games and has 16 goals during that span.

The Vaqueros, ranked No. 1 in Southern Cal and No. 5 in the state, improved to 15-2 and 10-1 in the WSC. They’re tied atop the conference with one game remaining on Friday at West L.A.

Voss made it 2-0 in the 67th minute on an assist from Domenichelli. In the 80th minute, Morgan Crumpley scored from close range on a pass from Domenichelli.

“Jess played tremendously and Ali Raack was very good in the midfield,” said coach John Sisterson.
